It is getting nearer to the end of 2020. This dreadful year that has turned our lives upside down. I thought I would take a moment to reflect on some trends that I’ve seen throughout the year.
While black may seem somber to some, black colored lighting fixtures have becoming THE BIGGEST TREND of 2020. It’s the new favorite neutral color. It’s chic, edgy, and making a space for itself in modern décor. You no longer need to coordinate your fixtures with your hardware (kitchen handles, faucet, etc). You can make a bold & neutral statement by simple using black. The benefit of black is that is also matches every color so you never need to worry about it going out of style.
LED IS MORE AFFORDABLE
LED is becoming much more affordable in terms of utility & under cabinet lighting. Make sure you remember to check what color temperature you are purchasing as you will have this light for a long time. I would also still shy away from decorative LED lights. You can purchase a regular decorative light and use an LED bulb.
Clear glass shades are a beautiful mash-up of industrial and rustic design. The clear glass paired with an LED filament bulb showcases the fixture as a piece of art rather than just functional lighting. There are still those who find the light from the filament bulbs a bit harsh. In that case you can opt for a double glass style with an interior opaque shade and a clear glass outer shade. Don’t forget to set aside extra time to keep the clear glass clean though.
BIGGER IS BETTER
Homeowners are falling in love with bigger fixtures to create that “wow” factor and attract attention. More than lighting, these fixtures act as centerpieces to kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms. Also with the design of the clear glass, you can easily go bigger with fixtures without overwhelming your space.
MIX AND MATCH
While I love a good collection (a collection is a group of various fixtures with the same design elements), it’s popular now to mix and match fixtures in different rooms using the same color and general style. You no longer need to be so matchy, matchy. As long as the design elements and color are similar – go ahead and be creative!
Here’s to hoping that Holidays bring you a sense of warmth and comfort. Be well friends.
